Christine Oberthür

(French, b. 1939)

Christine Oberthür expresses her attachment to the figurative for her favorite subjects, flowers and sailors.

In constant search for patterns gleaned from life, her painting sparkles with gaiety, movement and light with a fleshy bill. It is the emotion that guides her hand and work is her most powerful stimulant. Playing on the colors, using the lights that illuminate her picture, she makes it a place of joy. An arm of the sea, boats, people, houses or fields contribute to it. It is a simple and touching painting, without any emphasis or ambiguity.
