(French, b. 1939)
Christine Oberthür expresses her attachment to the figurative for her favorite subjects, flowers and sailors.
In constant search for patterns gleaned from life, her painting sparkles with gaiety, movement and light with a fleshy bill. It is the emotion that guides her hand and work is her most powerful stimulant. Playing on the colors, using the lights that illuminate her picture, she makes it a place of joy. An arm of the sea, boats, people, houses or fields contribute to it. It is a simple and touching painting, without any emphasis or ambiguity.
Christine Oberthür is a complete artist. Engraver and lithographer, she attended the courses of the Engraving Academy of Goetz, and those of the lithography workshop of Saint Maur and Atelier Nicolas Poussin.
During her career, she has received numerous awards and distinctions: Salon des Artistes Français - Bronze Medal; Salon d'Automne, Salon Violet - Bronze Medal; Salon de la Marine, National Salon of Fine Arts, Salon de l'Horticulture - gold medal; she is also a member of the Taylor Foundation since 1985.
She shares her life between Brittany, which she is from and loves, and Paris.
